H&M x G-Eazy

I bet a lot of you knew that 2018 had to be the year when another world-wide known musician G-Eazy had to collaborate with the Swedish brand H&M. However, after a huge scandal, both G-Eazy and the Weeknd are cutting ties with the brand.

An advert was released by H&M where a black child wore a jumper with a slogan ‘coolest monkey in the jungle’. This instantly spread throughout social media and had loads of negative comments. People were accusing H&M of racism since the word ‘monkey’ is used to insult dark-skinned people.

A week ago G-Eazy posted a picture on Instagram with a drawing of this boy wearing a jumper that says ‘coolest king in the world’ and announced that he is cutting all ties with this brand because of such an intolerance and racism.

I am really glad that such huge influencers like these rappers are showing the world how bad is racism and what are the consequences of being culturally unaware. Hope H&M learns from this mistake and does not do similar ones in the future.

ERDEM x H&M

Today is the big day a lot of fashionistas around the world have been waiting for – the official launch of ERDEM x H&M collection. The vast majority of people are fascinated by this collection, but I am not. It’s not that the clothes aren’t beautiful or I don’t like the shapes or designs, it’s just not my style.

Erdem is known for his vivid patterns and flowery prints, but that;s just not my cup of tea. I still admire this collection just because of the thought and effort the designer has put in it. “It’s very personal”, says Erdem. “The collection reinterprets some of the codes that have defined my work over the past decade, and it’s also inspired by film, music… things I loved growing up.” I love the story he’s telling, I really like the short film created by Baz Luhrmann, director of “The Great Gatsby” (one of my favourit movies) and I’m fascinated by the details in it, but Erdem has never been one of my favourite designers, so it’s not strange that I don’t love this collaboration.

On the other hand, I found a few pieces which cought my attention and I would love to have them in my wardrobe! pjimage

I really love this black dress, I think it’s edgy because of its colour, but at the same time it’s very romantic because of the lace and the ruffles on the sleeves and the bottom of the dress. Also I like this brooch, it looks classy and sophisticated, not what you’d expect to find at H&M.

Also, I’m mesmerized by the suits, coats and classy shoes in the menswear collection. Erdem did and AMAZING job designing these pieces, I always had a soft spot for men wearing classy clothing, and this in my opinion is really beautiful. I especially love the navy plaid coat, they have one very similar in women’s collection, but I think this one looks muuuch better.

So, overall I would give this collection an 8/10, just because I don’t like the flower patterns, but I know that these will be the most buyable clothes in the next few weeks and I believe that altogether this collaboration is very successfull!
