Maison Margiela Spring Couture 2018

“When I returned to designing, I was taken aback by how everyone was seeing shows through their phones,” John Galliano said at a preview this week. And he is right. Everyone is taking pictures, filming, making live videos, no one is just admiring the clothes with a bare eye. This wonderful designer took advantage of it and designed “colour changing clothes”.

As the models walked, the audience was asked to turn their camera flashes on when they took pictures. The result was phenomenal – the naked human eye saw one thing, but the camera showed a completely different colour palette. Speed, technology, and the fast-forwarding fractured chaos of modern consciousness were the subtexts of this couture collection. It is amazing how by integrating technology into garments designers come up with extraordinary ideas and exceptionally looking clothes. I am absolutely in love with this idea and really hope that this will become a trend one day.

Save our species

A few months ago a well-known fashion brand Lacoste made an amazing collaboration with the International Union for Conservation of Nature and releases limited-edition polo shirts in order to fight for wildlife conservation worldwide.

2

They chose 10 endangered species and made their iconic polo shirts replacing the crocodile logo with the endangered animal. The number of polos produced for each series corresponds to the remaining population sizes in the wild. For example, there are only 40 Burmese Roofed Turtles left in the world, so they made forty polo shirts with a green turtle logo instead of the well-known crocodile.

3

On their website, you can also find information about the animals, saying how many of them are left on earth, a description and why are they endangered. I think this is a truly wonderful collaboration and it is very nice to see major brands like Lacoste care about the world and take initiative in charities to encourage people to do the same.

Met Gala 2018

A few days ago, one of the years most awaited event was held – Met Gala 2018. This fundraising event has been held for 70 years and is one of the most extravagant and fashionable events ever. Every year it has a dress code witch its guests have to follow. This year the theme was  Heavenly Bodies: Fashion and the Catholic Imagination. Celebrities were inspired by religion and some of them really outdone themselves and looked absolutely breathtaking. And, of course, others missed the theme completely.

gettyimages-955753464    Rihanna wearing Maison Margiela by John Galliano. She took inspiration straight from the Pope and have to say, she slayed it.

gettyimages-955758042_master       Ariana Grande wearing Vera Wang. Her dress resembled the famous Michelangelo’s painting “The Last Judgment”. This piece was astonishing, definitely one of the evening’s highlights.

pjimage (2)          Don’t even know what to say about this haha… Beyonce 2017 Grammys vs Cardi B 2018 Met Gala. WHY.

1                   I am not a fan of Kylie’s dress either, the zipper looks super cheap and the design is just weird. Travis Scot’s militaristic jacket tho looks really good!

gettyimages-955762028_master      Kendall Jenner was wearing Off-White with Tiffany & Co jewellery. This outfit was really beautiful, simple and elegant.

2            Gigi Hadid wore a beautiful Valentino dress, honestly, this was one of my favourites! She took inspiration from the church’s colourful windows.

3           Kate Moss looked very untrendy in this Saint Laurent dress… I really hate the top part and think it’s so outdated.

4      Winnie Harlow wearing Tommy Hilfiger. Stunning girl in a stunning dress. Love the headpiece as well!!

5           Cara Delevigne in a beautifully designed Dior dress. I love all the details and the crown covering her face.

6          Rosie Huntington-Whiteley in a Ralph Lauren dress, she looks like an angel, the sequins and the cape looks just perfect.

7    Another angelic dress worn by Kate Bosworth.

89                  I like Amal Clooney’s dress from behind, I think the pattern is really nice and trendy but I’m not a fan of those trousers.

10 Absolutely in love with Madonna’s look this year! Jean Paul Gaultier did an amazing job designing her dress and the headpiece is just fabulous.

1          Again, love the bottom part of Jenifer Lopez dress but the cross is too tacky for my taste…

1    Looooove this elegant white Prabal Gurung dress!! Sometimes less is more and this simple piece looks extremely elegant and sophisticated.

1     Another one of my favourites – a Versace dress worn by SZA. The coloour, the cut, the material, everything looks mesmerizing.

1            And this pink dress looks like some kind of a misunderstanding… Neither the color nor the model looks pleasing, and the coat makes everything even worse.

1             This look is incredible! A black and white dress designed by Marc Jacobs made Janelle Monae stand out and once again showed that you don’t need tons of sequins and beads to shine.

1      Jennifer Connelly’s outfit looked like three different dresses sewn together, honestly, that’s not a good look.

1                  I like this warrior look, it suits Zendaya perfectly.

1            Ohh I live for this dress! I love Blake Lively as an actress and this piece makes me like her even more haha. I think it is absolutely stunning and she looks like a goddess.

Obviously, there were a lot more outfits to talk about but I tried to narrow it down to the best ones (and the worst haha). I always feel inspired by Met Gala’s themes and the fashion of the event and look forward to seeing it every year.

Alexander McQueen S/S18

Inspired by the rainy British weather and the beautiful English gardens, the creative director of Alexander McQueen, Sarah Burton, designed an astonishing collection witch took my breath away. Usually I only like a few pieces in each collection but this one was just mesmerizing. The looks included deconstructed pieces, beautifully made trench clothes on top of lingerie looking dresses, full of patterns and colourful flowers. Ruffled, oversized dresses made it look like a scene from a fairy tale and the “wet” hairstyles gave a very fresh and earthy look. It was really hard to choose just a few designs to show you because honestly I loved them all!

KIM_0059                      Such a lovely colour for spring! Love the ruffled details and the cut outs.

KIM_0091            Beautifully detailed oversized trench coat + matching shoes = THE DREAM

KIM_0119                              I love the edginess of this dress and the red off-shoulder details

KIM_0169                        This jacket has a beautiful manly silhouette and the checked pattern still stays on trend.

KIM_0223                        This oversized zipper sweater is something out of this world! Absolutely in love with the embroidery and the shape of this piece.

KIM_0401                             A light, feathery look edged up with boots and punk jewellery.

KIM_0479                        This dress is absolutely stunning! The colour and pattern just screams “summer” and the shape of it is truly amazing.

KIM_0493                       Love the details on this jacket!!

KIM_0561                        One of the most romantic looks in this collection, I really like the lace details and the deconstructed look.

KIM_0587

These two dresses look like they’ve been made for fairy tale princesses. Definitely the best ones I’ve seen this season, love the whole looks top to bottom!!

Alexander Wang Fall 2018 Ready-to-Wear

A young designer, who started his fashion career as an intern at Vogue, shows us that age does not matter if one has talent. Although everyone has a different taste and opinion when it comes to fashion, I think that Alexander Wang is one of those designers who most people find interesting and admire his designs. For his Fall 2018 Ready-to-Wear collection Wang  showed us a variety of cocktail dresses, short, sexy and eye-catching, decorated with silver details, zippers and some amazing accessories. He also designed some shirts, tracksuits, jackets and rebellious gloves and bags. The dominant colour was black ,although there were some pops of fuchsia and also some white pieces. These are some of my favourite looks:

_ARC0023                  I love this jacket dress, the zipper looks interesting and sexy and I really like how the belt accents the model’s waist.

_ARC0039            This jacket is beautifully tailored and, again, I love the zippers and how they make an optical illusion of a smaller waist.

_ARC0279              I’m in love with this jacket! Lately I’ve been really into oversized sporty jackets and this one is no exception. _ARC0293            This is one of the most romantic looks in this collection. The see-through material makes it look very intimate and luxurious. _ARC0329           Look at the black spiky gloves and the bag!! These accessories make a simple kinda “Chanel style jacket” look edgy and avant-garde.  _ARC0389                 A simple black and white look with some dark pants and a light oversized shirt. It looks like you could run to a grocery shop dressed like this but the leather gloves and a fur coat enhances the outfit to an expensive evening look.

raubdruckerin

raubdruckerin is an experimental printmaking project, that uses urban structures like manhole covers, grids, technical objects and other surfaces of the urban landscape, to create unique graphical patterns on streetwear basics, fabrics and paper. Every piece is hand printed, mainly on-site in the public space, as a footprint of the city. raubdruckerin is based in Berlin but works as well regularly in another metropolis like Amsterdam, Lisbon and Paris.” I found out about this brand while scrolling through Facebook and since it looked very interesting I decided to do some research.

This brand creates T-shirts, bags, sweaters with exceptional city prints. They use different surfaces like manholes, tiles, buildings to create custom prints from all over the world. Every product is slightly different and unique, handmade and environment-friendly. They use water-based ink without any harsh chemicals, the T-shirts are made of 100% fair traded & organic cotton so the brand is not only original but cares about sustainability as well. I think this is an extremely cool idea and I love the originality of it. Here you can find their products and see how many cities they have incorporated into this project.

Bourie A/W 2018

On the second day of Seul’s Fashion Week, a brand called Bourie showed its new 2018 Autumn/Winter Ready-To-Wear collection. I have never heard of this brand before, but today I was looking through Vogue’s catwalk section and I found this minimalistic yet interesting fashion brand. I like different styles and my fashion sense is very broad, as I would say. One day I might wear an all-black outfit with boots and the other I can wear a light floral dress. I like changing my style since every time I feel like a different person expressing different emotions.

What I liked about this fashion show is how simple and wearable the clothes are. The dominating colour was black, which might seem boring and unpleasant but the designer made some minimalistic classy looks with different cuts and shapes which made the outfits very charming.

I love this all-black look with a pleated skirt and an asymmetric jacket. It looks very strong and powerful although at the same time the bow on the belt and the skirt makes it look feminine and chic.

The sweaters look extremely comfortable and very easy to incorporate into your closet. Sometimes designers have really great pieces but there is no way an ordinary person could ever wear them, so I like finding clothes which look actually wearable and easy to mix with other brands. Although they are black and very simple, they look stylish and trendy.

Bourie had a few other colours in their palette – white and burgundy. Again, it looks so simple but so stylish and elegant at the same time.

While it is nice to see extravagant pieces from different brands, I think it is equally important to design clothes that ordinary people could easily wear on their everyday lives. Like this white sweater for example – throw on some blue jeans, white leather ankle boots and you are ready to go!

Elie Saab Spring 2018 Couture

Without any doubt, this is my favourite collection ever. I have already told you several times about how much I like the movie “The Great Gatsby” and all their costumes. Apparently, this collection was inspired by the 1920s and it left me speechless. I always loved Elie Saab’s designs, he was probably one of the first designers I fell in love with, and with this collection, he reminded me why. All the dresses were shiny, glittery, and so glamorous, they are all party dresses designed to make you feel fabulous. Honestly, I cannot imagine any women wearing a dress like this and not feeling like she is on top of the world. Each look was beaded, bejeweled, feathered, and wrapped in a bow, the embroideries were inspired by different vintage wallpaper, furniture design or architecture. If I could transform into a celebrity for one night and go to a red-carpet event, I would definitely choose to wear one of these dresses. Just take a look at this outstanding collection:

Givenchy Spring 2018 Couture

Givenchy’s new Couture collection was very elegant and classy. The designer chose to use tailoring in a feminine way, so the garments have sharp silhouettes but are still flowy and girly. The collection was inspired by the old Givenchy’s style and the structure it had. Most of the clothes are monochrome, one-third of the collection is black but it comes alive with loads of glitter, sequins and lace.

1            Love how structured this dress is, it has a really sharp silhouette but is still feminine.

2             This dress is dreamy, I do not like the belt colour, think it would look much better in black, but I really like the skirt and how two contradicting colours are layered on top of each other.

3 Absolutely love this look! The dress looks very luxurious itself but paired with this extraordinary coat it just looks out of this world. The blue details make the outfit look more fun and ad a pop of colour without making it lose the expensive look.

5          Again I am totally in love with the coat, they are probably my most liked items in the entire collection.

6               As I said in one of my posts, I am mesmerized by the movie “The Great Gatsby” and all their costumes. This dress reminds me of that era and sophistication, I can totally see the one of the main characters Daisy dancing in this dress.

H&M x G-Eazy

I bet a lot of you knew that 2018 had to be the year when another world-wide known musician G-Eazy had to collaborate with the Swedish brand H&M. However, after a huge scandal, both G-Eazy and the Weeknd are cutting ties with the brand.

Vaizdo rezultatas pagal užklausą „coolest monkey in the jungle“

An advert was released by H&M where a black child wore a jumper with a slogan ‘coolest monkey in the jungle’. This instantly spread throughout social media and had loads of negative comments. People were accusing H&M of racism since the word ‘monkey’ is used to insult dark-skinned people.

A week ago G-Eazy posted a picture on Instagram with a drawing of this boy wearing a jumper that says ‘coolest king in the world’ and announced that he is cutting all ties with this brand because of such an intolerance and racism.

IMG_5123IMG_5124 (1)

I am really glad that such huge influencers like these rappers are showing the world how bad is racism and what are the consequences of being culturally unaware. Hope H&M learns from this mistake and does not do similar ones in the future.
